I Have All The Sky Saxon Solo Albums On Tape

24 04 2008

Sky Saxon (you’ll be surprised to learn that wasn’t his real name) was a strange fellow. He started off relatively normal, in the 1960s with his garage band The Seeds releasing songs like “Pushin’ Too Hard“.

However later on he became increasingly eccentric, releasing solo albums on battered old tapes to diminishing but cultish returns. A fact parodied in the Pooh Sticks‘* tribute to indie trainspotter-ish record collectors On Tape:

I’ve got Falling and Laughing – the original Postcard version
I’ve got all the Sky Saxon solo albums on tape!

But I digress. My original point was this: in his wilderness years Sky joined a somewhat eccentric religious movement and started to make odd pronouncements.

Supposedly he claimed he had invented the term “flower power”, when it is obviously a slogan of the Bavarian Illuminati.

In a similar vein, Alcuin of York could lay claim to having invented another 60s garage rocker.

My question is this: what would you claim, possible to a somewhat credulous person, that you had invented?

I’m currently pretending I invented Tab Clear and half-day closing on Wednesday.

* Kind of The Archies to the Jesus and Mary Chain’s Velvet Underground. Not to be confused with the game.

I invented the Caramac Kit Kat. Only, you see, I really did.

Apropos of your post below, a girl I’d slept with one night at university left my room topless to use the facilities opposite. I shared a flat with 5 other blokes. I must confess I found her exhibitionism quite exciting.

I invented the word ‘meh’.

Sky Saxon wants you to buy his latest album that he “recorded in Greece” – yes, really!
I invented organically ventilated insoles for Converse All Star trainers.
Half-day closing on Wednesday you say? Not credible, that was around before you were born, young man.

hmmmmm …. Well Sky Saxon did indeed record his Atlantic Rising album in Greece. Would you like notarized affidavits to that fact? It is actually an amazing album. He also recently recorded an album with Cleopatra Records that they decided to call King of Garage Rock. This will soon be released. This is also fact. Sky also collaborated already and will continue now that Billy is back in the States on a few songs with Billy Corgan. This is also fact. Yes, a lot of crazy stuff has been written about Sky Saxon. How much of it is true? How much of it is gossip? How much of it is fiction? This amazing man who is my husband of just under a year is still very relevant in 2008. He is alive and well and still making music despite the fact that because of his trusting nature, many people are making the money rather than him. Sky is a genius-artist. As most genius-artists they are indeed eccentric and sometimes “out there” … that is what makes him even more endearing to many of his friends and fans. Who wants to be like everyone else? Who doesn’t wish they were as unique and talented as Sky Sason, hmmmmmm?

Blessings to everyone ….

(Incidentally, do we think no. 4 is joining in with this made-up theme, or is she for real? Might we be getting posts from Mrs Beefheart next?)

Nope … I’m really Sabrina Saxon. Okay I admit. Saxon is Sky’s stage name and I use that name because he does. My legal name is Sabrina Smith. I married Sky 07/07/2007 … here in beautiful Forest Knolls, California. I get google alerts whenever his name pops up. That is how I find some of these blogs seemingly from out of nowhere … sometimes I just have to laugh and sometimes we find such great heartwarming posts about Sky and his music. I just wish everybody could get to know him and see how pure his heart is. He IS eccentric but he is a genius-artist in many many ways. So I’m for real. Here is my myspace site: myspace.com/bohemefem if you are interested in finding out more at all … *smile* ….

The obvious question for Mrs Saxon must then be…

…does Sky still push too hard?

25 04 2008
Sabrina Saxon

no he didn’t push too hard … he was saying other people were pushin’ too hard …..

so the answer to your question is: he pushes just fine, thank you.

Sky’s a real gentleman. Not only did he get up on stage to sing a song with The SolarFlares, he graciously autographed my Seeds poster at The Boardwalk in London after a gig he did. It was fun watching him dance on stage with some of the teenage female members of the audience…

Coincidently, it’s not far from Chatham to the Saxon Shore Way.

He does love his fans …. and they do love him. I think what most people find so endearing is the fact that he will spend a lot of time talking to fans about everything and anything that they want to talk about …. anyway …. look for a lot more of Sky coming out again … He has a great lineup of The Seeds now and they are anxiously looking forward to us moving down to San Diego. Since all of The Seeds are in L.A. it will be easier for Sky to spend time with them. I’ve only known Sky for less than a year … and I’ve been amazed at how loved he is by a lot of people … and his eccentricity? more endearing …

Thanks Istvanski for saying something nice about Sky … he is a patient patient person when it comes to his fans for sure …. he just appreciates them so much …. and it is sincere appreciation.

Coincidentally, it’s a bit of a way from Chatham to Weymouth, little known epicentre of the Sixties Girl Singer Revival Scene, and a place where there are miles and miles of lovely beaches to walk along when the tide is low. That’s known as the Sandy Shaw Way. Then there’s the long trek to buy shoes from one of the few remaining branches of a once popular shoe shop. That’s known as the Saxone Shoe Way.

This comments thread makes me feel like I did when they gave me the codeine after I broke my wrist …

Send Sky best regards from Billy and llewtrah! We Brits are very fond of eccentrics, as long as they don’t frighten the horses!

Definitely will give him your regards! He loves England. Did anyone on here who lives over there ever remember a 60’s fashion shop called Velvet Illusion? The owner is a friend of Sky’s and he has moved over to the states, found a fellow 60’s obsessed girl and has gotten married! He is going to start a Velvet Illusion store in L.A. soon ….

Everybody check out Sky’s official sites to keep up with him and me. There are sites out there that are NOT official and who claim Sky has access but he does not.

His OFFICIAL website (which I’m revamping so it is not live at the moment) is:
http://www.skysaxon.com

His OFFICIAL Seeds myspace site is:

Hello all, I’ve been away for the weekend. Thank you for dropping in Sabrina, I had no idea my blog triggers alerts elsewhere in the internet.

*still in a state of slight disbelief*

Google has this great “google alerts” so I get alerted anytime Sky’s name comes up … sometimes I chime in and sometimes I don’t … but I guess I was in the mood this time. Yes, it is a surprise sometimes when I chime in to a blog like this out of no where ….

I use the alert for other things too that I’m interested in … like if sustainability or frugality or vegetarianism or things like that that we are interested in get mentioned on the internet … I get an alert …. really great tool that google offers …

I think sky is cool. He’s not afriad to be himself no matter what & you gotta respect a person like that & he’s made some “kick ass” music that I still enjoy

So good ‘ol Sky is still alive n’ kickin’! Good for him and that he found a lady whom would help him and stick buy him so completely, he needed that, he was lost without help from other people, he was practically homeless and broke for so long. Sabrina, you really are a blessing!
Sorry to say this but I would not let him over to my place because he would end up never leaving for he was usually staying whereever he could and he had no money or job to help out and yet I felt kinda bad for him a little.
People did take advantage of him, alot of musictians were ripped off back in the day… very sad, but he is kinda is off in left field “eccentric” somewhere all the time and that does not help him for being responsible for himself, by himself.
He also had a case of “sticky fingers”….
I love 60’s music, andI love his old stuff!!
He is a gentle soul, I knew him for over 10 years.

o wow, i was curiuos to see what ever happened to sky in the last few years or so, glad to know he is doing well!
he needed to take care of himself better though, last time i saw him he looked like a walking corpse!

I thought ALL Sky Saxon talked about was his OWN music endeavours till your ears drop off, and his father yahowa and dogs and wolves and “do ya have any bud??” and “can I come over and spend the night??”. He said he once gave his dog LSD and it died!! No, really!!
I think maybe HE took a little too much LSD himself!
God bless the man.
Go ahead, call it eccentric “genius-atrist” if that makes you feel better! lol

Stink Bombs……. yours truly!

I knew Sky for many years in L.A. and yes, he is definately out there, yes, he said he was the creater of “Flower Power”, and that he was the creator of phycedelic music, but he was impossible to do business with, with the “big guys” in the music business, so it was all small potatoes for him, but I believe it was after years of taking certain hard drugs and being brainwashed by a religious cult that persuaded him to sign over his royalties to the manager responsible for the old Seed’s record label., whom is probably making a little money off of his old 60’s stuff to this day.
Bad judgement on Sky’s part, but what kind of frame of miind was he in when he did this back then?
Also, you know how many crooked people in the music business such as manager-scam artists there were?
There was something about his taxes not being paid back then so Sky said as well.
Sky lost everythig in the sixties and when I met him in, I beleive around 1990, he didn’t have a pot to piss in, he was homeless and was staying where ever he could for as long as he could, and was not in very good health… some people felt sorry for him and helped him out such as I, but he just glommed onto anyone and everyone, he certainly wasn’t very picky whom he befriended and some people whom were amatuer musicians that formed all these many differnt bands with Sky thought that he was a “cash cow” based on the fact that 60’s music made such a comeback, and The Seeds were a commodity, they also helped Sky make a comeback in the music loop with a cult following.
Hey… it’s amazing he still performs full force!!
I feel it is rather sad that all this happened too him , but I am very happy that he is now doing well, I was thinking about him.
