Because Sometimes It Takes More Than A Cheese Toastie

I’m going to regret this, I thought to myself as I slugged the rest of wine down in one and looking around for my coat.
I know I made a promise to myself to try and not do any “this is what I did at the weekend / this is what I had for lunch” type blog posts, but it appears I’m breaking my own rule.
You see, I had a quiet evening planned. Eat some pasta, look at pictures of amusing cats and then watch The Apprentice, while simultaneously keeping up with what was happening via the infamous Guardian “live blog” written by the red boat woman.
While reading the build-up, I found this comment by BeulahB:
Very upset to be missing it live tonight as I’m taking the other half out for his birthday. I did suggest that we postpone until tomorrow, but he gave me the old skunk eye and said (Scarily in the manner of Margaret Mountme, actually) that his idea of a good birthday was not me sitting in the kitchen swigging pinot and cackling in a deranged fashion whilst simultaneously watching the little telly and banging away at the laptop.
Apart from the fact I wasn’t drinking pinot (fucking merlot if you please) and I don’t sit in the kitchen as my computer is next to the telly, that is a scarily accurate portrayal of me on a Wednesday evening at 9pm.
But it wasn’t to be yesterday as I found myself heading for Shepherd’s Bush Green and more specifically Ginglik, for an evening described as:
Every Wednesday we host the song driven live music night The Big Secret. The show is innovative and energetic yet chilled and accessible and fuses live music with live illustrating. In a town short of really good live gigs this one’s a real treat.
Well it was very good, acoustic guitars were plucked, keyboards were bashed and voices were erm… sung. The only downer I can find is that they only have bottles and it is a tad pricey for a cheapskate like me. Therefore I plumped for beer and we all know what happens when beer and wine are combined…
I woke up this morning feeling rather woozy. Luckily, I’d managed to have the foresight to have lots of water before I went to bed and left some by the bed to have in the morning with painkillers.
A cheese croissant and a strong cup of tea at my desk and I wasn’t too bad for the rest of the day.
But I never recommend weekday drunkenness.

Watching The Apprentice while reading the Guardian live blog, I might have to try that. Sounds like sensory overload, I’m not sure I’ll cope.

left some by the bed to have in the morning with painkillers If you’re really organised, you have the painkillers before you go to bed. (Though a friend of mine admitted recently that this backfired the first time she tried it, reeling back home after a party in her teens, as the painkiller got stuck in her throat and nearly choked her.)

Annie’s right, that works a treat (assuming you don’t choke on them).
Ginglik sounds like a fetish night for redheads. just saying, like…

Eyedrops. Always have eyedrops at your desk for red eye. Amazing.

James - You should join it. It is fun.
Annie - Not a bad idea.
Rosie - I didn’t see many redheaded people there.
Boz - Ooh, good plan.
