I can’t help thinking I would make an ideal newspaper columnist. I have an appropiately jaundiced view of the world, an inflated sense of my own importance and am too lazy to do proper research, preferring to go with my gut feelings on a given subject.
My main problems are a distinct lack of cohesion and a tendency towards tangents.
The other day, for example, I was referred to as a “non-scientist”. I am so totally a scientist, this is untrue. Were I a pretentious dickbucket, I’d add the letters BSc after my name, probably every time I said it. I’m a decidedly IMpractical scientist though, and could provide you with evidence of this by listing some of the things I have broken in school science lessons, and beyond. However, I think I have adopted, at least in places, the hegonomy of someone from “the humanities”.
This wasn’t deliberate, and I’d like to expand my horizons again.
(At this point I could bang on about CP Snow and the whole “two cultures” thing but I can’t really bothered)
