Meat On The Ledge

Despite living in today’s technological age, it always annoys me that I can type much faster than I can write with a pen.

Sometimes when I am on the train, or watching a film or in the shower I get out a pen and paper* and start writing a blog post, for typing up later.

Usually I just write a short amount, because as you know, writing too much in one go hurts your hand. When I come to write the post I usually do it from memory and don’t even look at the notes, for some reason the act of writing the notes down in the first place helps me remember.

Also I find my thoughts skipping ahead of what I’m writing and become increasingly annoyed when my poor addled fingers cannot keep up. Sometimes whole clauses are missing because of this.

But I don’t even like typing that much. When I was younger, I became convinced that voice-activated technology would be the next big thing and I could simply speak what I wanted to say and it would appear on the computer screen, thus creating another problem when I felt too self-concious to write anything when there was someone else in the house.

In an attempt to minimise typing I attempt to consolidate everything. My blog “feed” works its way through to Twitter as does my interesting bookmark feed. Also the bookmarks in Firefox filter through as “delicious” bookmarks.

This can cause a problem when someone else using my computer, say, when I’m at work, bookmarks something only for it to appear in my twitter feed a bit later causing me no end of confusion.

For the record, I am not interested in meat wholesalers in Central London.

* Have you ever tried composing a blog post in the shower with a pen and paper? I haven’t either, but the image amuses me. Maybe I could write one with fragments of soap on the tiles.
